CIVIL DEFENCE Civil
Defence is an effort to protect the citizens of a state measures not amounting
to actual combat for providing protection to any person, property, place
against hostile attacks and during internal disturbances
CIVIL DEFENCE IS FORMED UNDER “CIVIL DEFENCE
ACT, 1968”
It
uses the principles of emergency operations: mitigation, prevention, and
preparedness for disaster as also for response and relief after disaster.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

keep maintain law & order.
ROLE
ENVISAGED FOR CIVIL DEFENCE (AS PER HIGH POWER COMMITTEE REPORT) PRE- DISASTERS
- Educating
the community
- Awareness
in schools
- Sensitizing
Govt. Servants as well as residents
- Involving
PSUS and its employees
- Self
capacity building
DURING DISASTERS
- Assisting
in taking precautionary measures whenever any advance warning is received
about any natural disaster
- Helping
in evacuation of population to less vulnerable areas
- Launching
search and rescue operations
- Providing
first aid to injured and transporting them to medical centers
- Setting
up “Information and Guidance Centers” for providing information regarding
missing persons, injured, etc., and also information about the nature of
facilities and assistance available to affected people
AFTER DISASTERS
- Participating
in distribution of relief material to affected people
- Assisting
police/traffic police in ensuring smooth movement of emergency vehicles in
the affected areas
- Helping
the local administration in assessing the extent of loss to life and
property
